I was just going to transfer one domain but noticed that I have to manually write all the whois information for that domain. Is there any good reason for this? Cant the current whois information of the domain be transferred automatically, as with most registrars?

When you transfer a .ORG domain, the whois information will be whatever it is at the current registrar because they use Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP). You still have to enter contact information so we will know who to contact if the transfer fails. Verisign (.COM and .NET) is in the process of moving to EPP, but for now, whatever information you enter as the whois information in the transfer order will become the whois information of the domain when the transfer is complete.

Actually it was a .ORG domain what I was about to transfer but it still required filling up all the information.

Anyhow, at my other registrar this is possible regardless of what TLD the domain holds. I think their option desription says it well:

Apply WhoIs Info: Automatically transfer universal WhoIs contact information.

The way it has worked for me in the past, the owner contact information is required to be filled in on an EPP transfer, but not the others. The sole exception is the Admin E-Mail address, but that won't stick in WHOIS unless you click the "Contact Changes Required" button over to yes.

While your idea is a good one, I just don't see how it would be possible until VeriSign gets off their bums and gets EPP working for .com and .net. Under the current system, there are far too many different registrars and each displays their Whois info just differently enough, to the point that it is darn near impossible to write something to accurately parse the data.

Im not sure how it has been done, but eNom has this feature on by default and they are atm the world's second largest domain registrar and it has worked for me fine with hundreds of domains :)

Did some research... as I expected, if they can't parse it automatically, they put it into a queue and enter it manually, much like when a transfer screws up here trying to parse the admin contact e-mail.

When the information does not parse, we actually go in and manually process it, adding the whois information and continueing the process
