I would prefer that RS1 put their effort into improving the domains and certificates rather than try to implement a new site builder.

I would focus on domains and certificates as the core business.

Hello,

So far everyone seems to be on the same page here. My personal thoughts are the same. Does anyone else have an opinion, especially to the contrary?

Note: I would particularly like to bring a much larger focus to SSL certificates.

Thanks,

A focus towards Domains and SSLs would be ideal.

Aamir, as long as there is not a good software which would allow us to sell SSL certificates then I believe large scale sales wont happen. There are the tucows programs but I found out that it is not so easy to integrate a payment system into them. I tried to write my own but then stopped after completing it 25% as some other stuff came up.

Thanks,
Evren

Exactly what are our deficiencies in that and what would you need or want to make the option viable to you?

Thanks,

What I'd like to see would be a supported basic ResellOne software suite that would make it easy for new or smaller resellers to "plug it in" (install) and get started selling -- as easy as installing oscommerce for example -- with domains, certs, and any future products integrated and basic payment modules for paypal, google checkout, authorize.net, etc. as well as an active support forum.

It would be nice on the ResellOne site to also have a rundown of all compatibile billing packages that fully support ResellOne; or maybe simply prompt customer reviews of their experiences using each in the forums.

Well Jeff there are a few that support the domain sales but other then that your on your own ........ now with a little thought put in to it you can get the OpenSRS scripts working and in a round about way have your billing system you use now work with them.

I really doubt that RS1 will write a set of scripts that will do it all.

I just pointed out your OpenSRS howto in another thread as it's the most user-friendly quick-start-guide I've seen. IMO one problem now is that it almost feels like we're using another company's software whom we have no support from (tucows, where we can't login to their OpenSRS knoweldgebase for example; no direct information on the R1 site about the software even) It's similar to the Ensim days when EV1 servers got started. What made that work great is that an active forum support community quickly developed with lots of how-to's to get newbies started. In a year the newbies then started helping the next round of newbies, and so it grew.

With scripts like oscommerce you have a very active help and add-on community that really makes it easy to get started, discussion of what works in a given situation and what doesnt work with what else, an organized directory of compatible add-ons, etc.

With competitive domain/cert reseller solutions like enom, they provide an off-the-shelf ready-to-go supported reseller setup so anyone can get started without having to program their own interface or worry about what change might be coming in 3 months that will break things.

For ResellOne to take off I think they need to make the initial step of getting an API client domain and cert purchasing interface setup less "risky" for new users so they can get started with something very basic, but something that is well supported, and grow from there.

All good points although I have to say a set of scripts will be difficult to get done, but should certainly be attempted.

The forum idea however is something we are currently completely able to do. If you active members will post here some of the programs that you've used, I'll create at least a thread, possibly a forum area devoted to catalogging the different programs used and experiences. That way we can go about creating an organized area where these things can be discussed and ideas traded.

Awaiting information from you guys,
